Compensation:  Starting Salary is based on rank and applicable steps for related work experience as per the Santa Fe College Salary Schedule.  Promotional placement is not limited to the posted salary range maximum.  Compensation package is comprised of many college paid benefits including health and life insurance, retirement, leave time, and tuition waivers for Santa Fe College and the University of Florida.

The Information Technology Education (ITE) prepares students for careers within computer programming, network administration, computer support and other technical occupations in the information technology field.  The Information Technology Education Program at Santa Fe College currently offers eight certificate programs, four Associate of Science degrees and one Bachelor of Applied Science degree.   ITE at Santa Fe College is seeking a nine (9) month Assistant Professor to promote and encourage student success in computer sciences through quality instruction and real world learning experiences beginning Fall 2018.

Under general supervision, the Assistant Professor, ITE (Programming and Analysis) will develop, prepare and teach courses a variety of computer programming concepts consisting of teaching assignments which may include web development, applications development, programming languages, database management, as well as other subject areas.  Faculty may be assigned to SF’s main Northwest campus or housed at any of the College’s six educational centers.  Candidates must have the flexibility to teach at any one of these different sites and at different times throughout the academic year.  Additionally, course offerings may be taught during the day, evening, or online, as well as taught using other distance learning formats.

Full-time faculty have a primary nine (9) month contract based on teaching 15 credit hours in the Fall and 15 credit hours in the Spring; teaching opportunities beyond contractual obligations, including during the summer may be available for additional compensation based upon departmental need.

  • Plan, organize, and deliver programming and analysis instruction in didactic, laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to evaluate, develop, and revise curricula, as well as pedagogical methods that enhance student mastery of course content.
  • Support the mission of the department and college to promote student learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, faculty scholarship, professional development, and service.
  • Assist with the implementation of college policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with the Santa Fe philosophy, values, and mission.
  • Appropriately document student progress and maintain records including attendance and student learning outcomes.
  • Strictly honor student confidentiality and privacy as per appropriate laws, regulations and college rules.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committee work and complete staff assignments as requested.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Director, ITE

Required:  A Master’s degree in any of the following qualifying fields: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Decision & Information Technology, Educational Technology, Information Technology, Information Systems, Information Security or Information Assurance is required, as is extensive working knowledge of a C-based language, scripting languages, SQL, and database management.   

In place of a Master's degree, candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and a portfolio of documenting significant professional accomplishment and experience will also be considered.  A Master’s degree in one of the qualifying fields will be required to earn continuing contract (tenure); verification of enrollment from an accredited college or university and annual completion of coursework must be provided. (For detailed information regarding credentialing requirements for ITE, see page 39-43 of the Faculty Credentialing Manual.) A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred:  Preference is given to candidates with a higher level degree and/or long-term industry experience.    Candidates with teaching experience and the ability to incorporate appropriate instructional technology into coursework are preferred
