Compensation: As per the SF Salary Schedule. Limited to teaching no more than 12 credit hours or equivalent per semester.

Under general supervision, the Adjunct Assistant Professor, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will develop, prepare and teach EMS coursework focused on training within a laboratory setting.  Course offerings may be taught during the day or evening and candidates are expected to have the flexibility to teach at different times throughout the academic year.

  • Plan, organize, and deliver instruction in didactic, laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.
  • Support and promote the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and service.
  • Collaborate with Director of EMS Programs, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum to cultivate the mastery of course content.
  • Strictly honor the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Provide students with frequent, timely assessment of and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Appropriately document student progress and maintain records including attendance, grading and student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Academic Lab Manager, EMS Programs

Required: An Associate’s degree, or higher from a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) accredited institution with an active certification as a Paramedic in the State of Florida, four (4) years of field level provider experience within the pre-hospital environment and Instructor Qualifications as indicated in Florida Administrative Code 64J-1.0201 are required. 

Other:  Instructor Certification is necessary within six (6) months of employment: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), or Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).  A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: Candidates with teaching experience and the ability to incorporate appropriate instructional technology into coursework are preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful applicant must be willing to work a flexible schedule at multiple sites, as well as demonstrate the ability to work well with students, faculty and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment.
