Compensation: Starting Salary is based on rank and applicable steps for related work experience as per the Santa Fe College Salary Schedule.  Promotional placement is not limited to the posted salary range maximum.  Compensation package is comprised of many college paid benefits including health and life insurance, retirement, leave time, and tuition waivers for Santa Fe College and the University of Florida.

Santa Fe College’s Construction and Technical Programs (CTP) provide a wide range of opportunities for students to enhance current employment or prepare them for a career in an industrial occupation such as construction, automotive service, HARV, welding, electrical, plumbing or carpentry.  CTP is seeking a nine (9) month Assistant Professor to promote and encourage student success in the Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration & Ventilation Technology Program through quality instruction and real world learning experiences beginning Fall 2018.

Under general supervision, the Assistant Professor, Construction and Technical Programs, will develop, prepare and teach a variety of technical coursework related to the installation and repair of refrigeration equipment, comfort cooling and heating systems, heat load calculation, duct design, psychometrics and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) required testing. Applicants should be willing and able to teach other courses in the HARV curriculum. Faculty are employed on a contract basis and may be assigned teaching duties at SF’s main Northwest campus or at any of the College’s six educational centers.  Course offerings may be taught during the day, evening, or online, as well as taught using other distance learning formats. Candidates must have the flexibility to teach at any one of SF’s different sites and at different times throughout the academic year.  

  • Plan, organize, and deliver Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration & Ventilation Technology instruction in didactic, laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.
  • Support and promote the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and service.
  • Collaborate with department director, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, design and develop curriculum current with industry standards to cultivate the mastery of course content.
  • Counsel and advise students; provide students with frequent, timely assessment of and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Appropriately document student progress and maintain accurate records such as attendance, grading and achievement of student learning outcomes.
  • Strictly honor the privacy, security and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Proctor exams, participate in departmental meetings, as well as college taskforces and/or committees as necessary.
  • Engage in professional development activities and provide services to the department and college.
  • Maintain appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
  • Actively engage professional organizations and community partnerships within the HARV Technology industry, as well as plan and participate in advisory committee meetings for the program.
  • Effectively utilize online course management systems to deliver and enhance course instruction.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Director, Construction and Technical Programs

Required: Demonstrated competencies in a variety of air conditioning (AC), refrigeration and heating service techniques and a minimum six (6) years experience in the HARV industry.  Areas of competency include management of the repair and service process in heating and air conditioning, working knowledge of the electrical and refrigeration process for residential and commercial comfort systems, as well as food preservation systems for domestic and commercial entities.

Other:  A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred:  An Associate’s and/or Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   The successful candidate must be a proven leader with organizational skills, vision, integrity and a desire to move HARV education at Santa Fe into the future at the local, state and the national levels. The Assistant Professor should have some HARV formal education, possess firsthand knowledge of the HARV process and have proven experience in HARV repair.  Strong computer skills, as well as strong oral and written communication skills are required. This position must work well with students, faculty and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment.
